A Short Story
Learn to Ride
After a hard day of pleasing some high end women and fending off the advances of Jackal, who was bound and determined to sleep with him, he was invited to a snow boarding party by his boss, Hors.
Shinrin jumped at the chance to learn how to snow board. He had been watching the others slide down the mountain for months, Hors making the slopes accessible to those who made so much a month, and during primes times, a week as a reward for their sacrifice/hard work. Finally, he had clientele that had him making the mark and more. He even bought everything he needed, but the board, to get started.
Jackal escorted him happily, all the while flirting heavily. Hors met them at the summit, a practice board in his hands.
Shinrin took it gingerly and thanked Hors. "Jackals going to teach you how to use it. He is a good teacher." Hors informed him cruelly. "I'm teaching some girls over there and don't want you there to distract them. They're good money makers and I don't want them to die." Shinrin was the only male escort that only catered to ladies and even the female escorts looked to him for a good time. He was a distraction then.
"That's understandable, sir." Shinrin gave in as Jackal jumped next to Hors with a board that was engraved with his name on the bottom.
"Make the top 15 in sales and you get a board like Jackals that's personalized with your name." Hors pointed out Jackals board. "But right now, you get the practice board until you have your snow legs."
"Yes, sir." Shinrin nodded. He really wanted the personalized board, a status symbol among the girls and the owners. To come here would be freedom from slobbering patrons.
"Are we ready for some snow?" Jackal happily cheered as Hors left them. Shinrin smiled at Jackal and nodded. "Snow boarding's easy if you can balance. You have all those tails. Do you think they will knock you off balance?"
"I don't think so. I think they will help actually." Shinrin thought out loud. "We can find out."
Jackal threw his board onto the ground and slid his boots into place on grooves that kept his feet on the board. Shinrin followed suit, already wearing the boots that would fit the board, thankful he was told beforehand. "Now to release your boots from the board you lift up and slid back out." Jackal told him while demonstrating. He watched Shinrin do it multiple times before moving on.
After an hour of being lectured on how to move and stop, Jackal walked Shinrin to a small slope and pushed him down. Shinrin fell down the slope at first, but soon could stay on longer and longer the more he tried it. He soon graduated to the bunny slope and slid down it shakily. His tails suddenly didn't want to cooperate and he found them getting in his way and blowing into the wind. The fluffy fur on his tail started catching the wind and knocking him to the side when it gusted.
"Your tails aren't helping you!" Jackal helped him up once more. "Others have tails, but they aren't acting like sails like yours does."
Shinrin looked down. He had tried to control how the wind hit his tails, but the wind won every time. If he could only be on both of his feet, he could keep his balance in the wind. "We should try regular skis." Jackal offered as he escorted Shinrin back to the summit and into the board shop. Hors was surprised to hear of Shinrin's problem and disappeared into the back. He returned a few minutes later with a pair of shiny red and black sticks about the size of him.
"These are skis!" Jackal showed him. "We rarely get anyone interested in them cause snow boarding's cooler. This uses both of your legs so you can balance better! These babies are new. The last owner sadly, not meeting any requirements here, was eliminated. You can have them!"
Shinrin took them and inspected them. "These look cool. I can give them a try. Do you know how to use them?"
Jackal shook his head, "I know the basics of start and stop."
"Hors, sir?" Shirnin looked to his Boss. Hors shrugged, Shinrin sighing.
"Oh! It comes with two sticks to stab the ground to make you go faster, keep you in place, and help you stop!" Jackal remembered running into the back and returning with two spiked metal rods. He handed them to Shinrin and stood at Hors side.
"So I'm on my own to learn how to use them?"
"The twins might know how to use them, but it looks to be self explanatory. Stab sticks in ground to make you go faster, turn sideways to stop, keep your feet together." Hors shrugged once more.
Shinrin nodded at him. He got the hint he would have to do this himself. He wanted to feel the wind against his skin as he flew down the mountain and he didn't care he was supposed to get it. As he left, jackal followed him out. The two played around with the skis before Shinrin really got serious and practiced down the small slope before going back to the bunny slope. The wind proved a problem again, but this time Shinrin was able to stay upright and learned to weave. Though hackled heavily, he quickly mastered the skis.
As the sun set, Shinrin stood at the summit of the second slope, larger and more of incline then the bunny slope. Jackal went down first to show him a safe way down the path. Shinrin swallowed nervously and pushed off to catch up to Jackal. Digging at the ground a few times to get to a speed he could stand, he tucked his himself in, the spiked sticks out stretched behind him while he crouched which he found also gave him speed. He filed in behind Jackal, but not quite catching fully up. The two weaved in perfect sync, attracting the attention of a gaggle of female escorts at the bottom of the slope.
Shinrin watched them gather in a half circle around the bottom, talking amongst each other excitedly. His blood boiled then and he began showing off, weaving and dipping low to the ground. He noticed Jackal kept checking on his moves and made motions for him to slow down or stop what he was doing. He watched Jackal cut to the left and make a wide swing, thinking he was just getting out of his way, Shinrin swerved right.
Right into a large bump.
He was flung through the air, the skis flying in different directions as he flew. He crashed hard against the snow and rolled the rest of the way down, landing just in front of the girls. He shook the snow from his ears and hair and looked up to the girls. He expected them to be laughing, but found them looking like they were about to cry. "Hey ladies, calm those tears. I am fine." He spoke smoothly to them. He was flattered they were about to cry for him, but he was uninjured, other than his pride.
"That looked like it hurt!" One wailed from the back.
Shinrin shrugged it off, "No lady should fret. Also never show off when your learning how to do something." He sorely got up and acted as if nothing was wrong. He extended his arms, inviting a hug. The girls rushed him. "See no pain! Who wants to walk me back to base? I'd hate to show up without the pretty girls of Club Blue on my arms."
The girls squealed at his words and started to drag him away from the slope. Jackal watched a few feet away, Shinrins ski's in his arms. He chuckled as they walked away. Shinrin's charm working like magic.
